ON REPEAT: Clairo, Delores Galore, jev., Robber Robber, Carnations, salute, MF DOOM
robble robble
I’m having a month! When people ask how I am, I keep looking off into the distance and saying the words, “hard times, daddy,” like Dusty Rhodes. Here’s the playlist where I keep all these!
Delores Galore “Calls For You”
We had Delores Galore & Sexxy Dexx on The Best Show! The whole set is perfect, and it was a thrill to see her perform live a few days to an audience of mostly “casual goths over 30” the other week. I predict big things in her future but until then, enjoy the new track.
Robber Robber “Dial Tone”
Robber Robber is a band from Vermont whose name sounds kinda like the Hamburgler’s catchphrase, but isn’t exactly, even though the Hamburgler is a robber by trade.
jev. “Alice”
The only sample I can find within this new song by jev. is “Bring Me Down” by Kanye, but doesn’t it kinda sound like Tropicala? idk i’m tired
Clairo “Juna”
You may have heard this song on a million TikToks already but it’s well-deserved! This is her best song. I texted my teenage niece about it. And can we talk about this video? Seriously, if you haven’t sampled your local 500-capacity indie wrestling show please do, it’s a great time, like a sweaty Medieval Times.
Carnations “I Die”
This is a band from Sydney but this video would have fit right in with on New York Noise back in the day.
salute “luv stuck (feat. piri)”
Summer is effectively over for me but everybody seems to be having a genuinely nice time here even though they probably all got a text that week saying, “hey friends we’re shooting a music video! come to [STUDIO NAME] at 10am and we’re gonna film you dancing for three hours. water will be provided! thanks in advance!” That’s what Brat Summer was all about, man.
Primal Scream “Pills”
I admittedly don’t know much about Primal Scream. but I’m trying to fill my blind spots, particularly stuff slightly before my time.
No joke I recently read about this song in an old Vice article from like 2002 about music to listen to while on cocaine, and while I’m not typically a “partaker” this Y2K era cultural deep cut(?) was precisely what I was looking for reading an old Vice magazine. I’ll read any listicle about music and I’m weirdly fascinated by the niche alt culture that was happening just before I was old enough to be aware of it. (I also read old SPIN magazines, which are less likely to casually toss out slurs).
If you’re curious, the other “coke jams” they talk about are a lot of awful picks like Foreigner, Yes, Night Ranger, and Whitesnake but then I remember “hipster irony” was such a big thing then. Then it pivots to songs like this with lines like, “this jam is strong enough for Stevie Nicks’ asshole.”
I pray my “music writing” ages better than this:
THE GOLD STANDARD
MF DOOM “Accordion”
This is one of DOOM’s best. I put it on a mix of “chillers” for my aforementioned cool teenage niece. I dare you to find a more chill good hip-hop song that isn’t explicitly for getting stoned or one of those groups like Digable Planets who are also kinda jazz.
Recent On Repeat guest list-writer Vin Forte wrote a piece about the music video too this week so something is in the air.

More reviews of awful music writing please!
