POOLSIDE PLAYLIST

I love pools! More than the beach. Sadly, I rarely get a ton of pool time when summer rolls around. I have taken to sneaking down to the pool at the Roosevelt Hotel and going for a swim every now and then, which is fun. But I’d rather be invited to a pool. This is me asking you to invite me to your pool.

Of course, I’m asking via playlist. There’s a throughline here, in that all of these songs have a loose “liquid” quality. Here are some highlights, ranked by how pool-y they are.

• Levek “French Lessons”

  Easily the song that inspired this playlist. They actually are singing about swimming. Also Levek is from Florida, one of our great pool states.

• Boat Club “Warmer Climes”

  Boats are not fully related to pools, but both involve water. This song also deals with warm climates and sunshine. But it feels like swimming in a pool, maybe one of those sunrooms with the walls like the side of a Wendy’s.

• John Glacier “Icing”

  I know what you’re thinking, ice is antithetical to pool. But this is more of a song about having an icy personality. The song itself sounds like being underwater, next to the water jet.

• Janet Jackson “Doesn’t Really Matter”

  An all-time jam. The beat kinda sounds wet? It’s a stretch, but if you’re putting this on during a pool party, it’ll be good vibes all around.
